Sky started off pretty well, but the last few months have been nothing but trouble.
My line is capeable of 10mbit. When I had Pipex in the early days, it ran happily at that. When I moved to Sky they informed me that my maximum was 8. Not true, but at that speed, fine, I'll just live with it.
Not long after that they mysteriously upped the cost of my broadband, with no warning. I phoned and asked what was going on and the Indian man (who claimed his name was John, HA) insisted this was correct. I then mentioned we have a letter that guaranteed the price until January 2010. He quickly changed the price back down and apologised. However, come January 2010 they immediately put the price back up.
During this time I have had constant periods of disconnection. These range from 2 minutes (enough to disrupt a game) to 2 hours (enough to disrupt an entire work schedule). Upon phoning tech support and speaking to 'John', the Indian man on the other end, we spent 35 minutes diagnosing the issue. He was not interested in the exact error (which the router supplied), but the colour of the blinking light. Eventually he said there was a line fault and a BT engineer has been dispatched. Why couldn't we have gotten to this in the first place, rather than resetting routers and looking at blinking lights?
More recently Sky has taken to giving me horrendous quality connections. Whilst the speed is fine once connected (sometimes), connecting to games, videos and even websites is an utter nightmare. Ping tests showed my ping to be a full 1 second (1000ms). Upon phoning Sky they insisted it wasn't on there end, and offered no help to resolve the issue.
Eventually I had had enough and phoned and demanded my MAC address. They put me through to an English speaking call centre (how nice of them to only give you English speakers when you want to leave) who said they could not fix the errors with my line, but would offer me £5 off and match O2s price. But then I'd still have a broken connection, for the same price as my preferred ISP?
Eventually they decided to post me my MAC, rather than email or SMS it, I presume to keep me on the service for that extra few days.
To sum up: Avoid. Connections aren't fast, quality is terrible, customer support is incompetent and doesn't speak English.

Moving to Sky from Vodafone broadband has been a very disappointing experience. I am a graphic designer and depend on good connections speeds. I cannot understand how organisations can get away with boasting 8Mbps and delivering, at best 3Mbps. In any other industry this would be damned as misrepresentation.

I am on Sky Broadband Connect, Paying £17.00 pcm for abysmal speeds, and regular disconections, loss of server you name a broadband problem I get it. They advertise upto 8Mb (i think on this package) but because it's an old BT package and it's so over subscribed the sheer ammount of people trying to use the internet at popular times it becomes pointless sometimes even trying to open a basic webpage, let alone try to upload pics/movies etc to things like FB or photobucket. For example i did a speedtest recently and the average i was getting was 0.08Mb DL / 0.07Mb UL. the only time i got a decent speed ie: 6Mb was about 3am and tbh i am usually in bed by then.

According to SKY's own estimate, my telephone line supports 5Mb, but they informed me that their Broadband Connect product offers only 2Mb, i.e. despite their claim on their website they are actually capping my connection to 2Mb!!!!!!

Don't buy it ! It's crap ! . Unfortunatly it's no better than BT or the other Shylocks out there . They promise a lot deliver little and help not at all . To be absolutely fair they are helped a lot by BT who provide a land line that is only PHYSICALLY capable of 512kbps and cable who are not laying any lines any more . For a new building developement where I live this is criminal . BUT ! Check the speed out for your area because if you haven't got cable then you are limited in speed by the distance from the exchange FACT . NON FACT ( Lies ) able to provide a service up to XYZ kbps when physically they can't .

With a connection that is a tenth of what the company is advertising and have informed me that I could obtain this is very poor however the issues are due to line quality which rests entirely with BT who dispite thier billions have still to invest in fibre optics as promised some 12 years ago.

When i had sky installed part of the package was if i wanted to take broadband. There was basic and an increase in speed for an extra £5 per month. Then recently i got an email from there saying that as a customer they going to upgrade my broadband speed for no extra. There has been no improvement so far, but the opposite at times its crawling. This is on a connection from router to my pc wired. Then when i use my laptop in other rooms its pitifull the speed, so slow. I left Talktalk because if there pathetic service, even from the company C.E.O. Looks like things got worse not better.

At first Sky was fantastic with great speeds actually exceeding my recommended bandwidth but within two weeks and several pointless phone calls later, Sky slowed down to worse than Dial up. I actually used my iPhone on EDGE which was faster at home, and am forced to write this review on it. Eventually after complaining to Sky about my diminishing speed I requested a MAC code only to find my connection terminate entirely despite the fact that I had not even opened my MAC address letter. I did not instruct cancellation, which they said they couldnt do until the contract was up anyway. Essentially Sky do not fulfill their contactual obligations to their customers and eventually in my case are charging me for a service ghat is totally inoperable. Rubbish!

I signed up for a download speed of 8mb. I had a new phone line fitted and was expecting a download speed of aprox 6.5mb. All I get is an average speed of 0.45mb !!!! All sky say is that between the hours of 5pm and midnight the speed will be a lot lower than is expected, but this download speed is the same no matter what time of day I check! They have no interest in this fact and my pay as you go three dongle is faster than the speed from sky !!!! I'm now locked into paying for a download speed of 8mb when in reality its less than 1 !!!!!! should have just stayed with the dongle !!

It's far too slow and Sky have always told me it's the best I can expect as I am too far away from the exchange. What they failed to tell me as your test has proven is that its the best I can expect from them.

One word will describe this service, disgusting. It is not the kind of 'Broadband' speed I was expecting at all, and to think I had to wait 2 months for them to actually activate this poor, poor excuse of a service. My advice.... AVOID!

Never seem to get over 2mb these days when I should be getting much more, often its around 1 or less. Complained about it but to no avail. Evenings is the worst when kids are home from school and the network just drops off.

Since moving to SKY from BT we receive on average a download speed of 500kbps and upload of 300kbps. This is slower than BT which was able to deliver between 6MB - 8.2MB. Sky state that the ADSL extension cable we use is not supported and will not deal with it until it's removed. Once removed there has been no improvement on speed with regular daily speed tests. Who knows what will occur now. Tech support are patronising and unhelpful.....also not very technical. I believe the modems provided are sub-standard and poorly configured. The modem stats report speeds of 7MB on average and this is so far from the truth. I WISH WISH WISH for Tele2 or a decent fibreoptic connection. I have no confidence that SKY will resolve this. They have escalated it to BT. IfI left BT why would BT like to improve Sky's service. Something dodgey is afoot with these LLU connections.
