RE what Greg Forrest, Consett, SSE 2019-05-11

This you wrote I have a few times and worse it seems this is the way SSE do business. They must be trained to do it this way.

'The Part of your post I refer to'

When i spoke to Rachel an arguement took place and i explained that if i had to pay the fee after all the issues that i wouldnt continue with SSE. She assured me i didnt have to pay any fees and the previous advisor was incorrect. She took no responsibility for any of the previous issues raised apart from the automated line complaint .A month later i checked my bill online and what do you know a £60 connection fee charge added to the bill , i rang straight up to try n speak with Rachel , she wasnt availiable and hasnt been ever since that moment and along with that she pretended as if none of what she said previously had even took place!

But you should know even when take a contract with them on the sales line. You ask something and in conversation ask something else they will over talk you in louder voice to drown what you ask until they finish talking. They always want and need to be the alpha it seems. Not that your competing why should you when you can end the call and get another provider. That is unless you have already signed up.

Do they also still talk through the whole contract which can take upto 2 hours to do. No other service does that and you don't listen either so what is the point. They go on and on and on bla bla f'ing bla yawn zzz !!!

Switched to SSE from plusnet. So far 3rd week without broadband. Once you get through to support (on average 40 min wait) they fob you off and say nothing can be done at all. If you are OK to be without internet access for a month when switching to SSE, then this is company for you. Been their customer for only 3 weeks and really regrety decision to go with them.

Switched to them phone and broadband at the beginning of August. Then they disconnected my broadband and now I'm in 5th week of trying to get it re-connected. Nightmare company to deal with, constantly fobbed off by support and still don't know when I will have broadband back. The few pounds you may save with them is really not worth it.

I'm just finishing with SSE as I've come to the end of my 18 month contract.
I was on the 76meg fibre package and the only reason I'm not renewing is because I can get a cheaper service.

They do use a FUP but I had no issues running web servers, gaming servers and watching live streams on the TV all at the same time.

The supplied router is UGLY but that is all, it copes easily with my unusual LAN setup and numerous port forwarding rules.

One star missing due to the FUP.
Are FUPs needed now in the days of Fibre?

If the price is right go with them. The service is great.

    RIDICULOUS THROTTLING ON FIBRE

Paying for 80Mbps, getting 8Mbps. Regret switching from BT. This is a scam.

Worst Internet provider, ever. Problems after problems, engineer after engineer, router after router, still never managed to fix the problem, in the end I left because it took too much time and money too get this issue fixed, I had to wait 30 minutes for a phone line everytime I rang, and to wait and explain to all theses different people each time I phoned, really did me no favours thinking I'd be better off with sse with no month contract, but I was kidding myself. Worst Internet provider ever. Waste of time.

After some difficulty with enabling the connection , SSE are as good as another provider, the customer service I found good.
The initial difficulties seem to stem from the Open Reaches way of doing the connection, in a word POOR. SSE customer services were good and provide compensation for the finical costs incurred by the delay.

Even with the "heavy user" fibre optic package Traffic management kills your speed at peak times making it virtually unusable if you want to download anything, I have had speeds as low as 17kb/s.

Customer service only scored 3 stars as they omitted to tell me the date they were taking over my service, send me a modem and that they had arranged an engineer to call. I only found out by accident when my service stopped. That said they sorted it all out in 24 hours with telephone calls to keep me updated. They also sorted out the issue when OpenReach equipment failed at the exchange within the above 24 hours. I always judge a company on how they respond when something goes wrong - to date have not been disappointed and its great to speak to a UK support centre

Can only agree with other reviewers here, avoid this company for your broadband service. Been with them for just 5 months and had issues since day 1 that haven't been resolved yet after several phone call to them. Always excuses and telling me what they think the problem is but without coming up with a long term solution.

Was told to buy a powerline adapter at cost to myself which I did and still having issues with wifi signal dropping out several times per day. Now trying to get out and cancel my contract and move to Virgin instead. SSE's routers are basically cheap garbage and they know it and their customer service try to make excuses for it and side step around the issue.

I was told that the signal coming into the house is fine and working but what happens to wifi in the house (i.e my signal keeps disappearing and dropping out) is nothing they can do anything about. Really?? Its their substandard equipment that ia causing the issue, and are they seriously suggesting that its ok if the wifi signal drops out several times a day and there is nothing they can do about that? Substandard routers, substandard service and substandard company. Avoid at all costs!!

Absolutely atrocious. To cut a long story short a month has passed and they are still unable to even process the application. Have spent what seems like days on the phone and eventually because they had no idea what to do. I have told them to forget it. Supposedly they will be compensating me with £50. Don't go anywhere near SSE for broadband. Hopeless.

Shambolic. The broadband service on the website actually links you to gas and electric when you try and do a home move which means they will direct you to cancel then try to penalise you for thinking it is cancelled. Beoadband itself is poor too, video meetings often cutout due to speed. Pay the extra and avoid SSE.

I'm thinking if cancelling contract as they do not deliver what they advertise gggrrrr and thinking if reporting to trading standards for false advertising

Really impressed! Having experienced switch overs before I expected the usual chasing and days without any internet but I had nothing of the sort! It was really straight forward, I just filled out a form online and was told that they would be touch within so many days. I received a letter in time with all the T+Cs and to let me what to expect and when. Without me doing anything else, my old supplier contacted me to say that SSE had been in touch and they knew I was leaving. I was told when an engineer would come (I was given a 4hr window to expect them). The engineer arrived as expected and I had, at most, 1 hour without internet! There's been no problems so far!! I have never known any switch to go this smoothly! And at such a great price too, way below everyone else. I had to call customer services to ask 1 question, I had to wait to speak to someone for 40mins (hence 4 stars) but when I got through to someone they went above and beyond to help. I really can't speak highly enough of this company.

The service has been fine. But a fallen tree has severed my line. Openreach cant repair it until SSE contact them. I have been trying to get through to them for 2 days and have so far spent 4 hours waiting with no answer and no response to emails or anything. They are a disgrace.

SSE are reselling a poor service from BT/Openreach, which was OK. Website and customer service is poor. No other way to contact them but by phone which took 20 minutes. Then put on hold and finally cut off. Very poor aftercare service.

Poor service, average reliability, terrible speeds and regular drop outs. Got this for the price, but won't be with SSE once the contract period ends. For those who want to know, I was told speeds of 13mbps would be the norm, (after testing). On first install I was indeed getting 13-15mbps. Now, just a few months later, highest I get is 2-5mbps, and I frequently find it's dropped below 1mbps. I know the line is fine, so it's SSE throttling it. We use it for catch up TV and normal web browsing.
    V. Poor.

SSE is cheap, has a 1 month contract and the customer service is OK inasmuch as they answer the phone fairly quickly and speak English. However, I have had recurring technical problems, the computer disconnecting from the server even though the signal is strong, dropouts when it is connected, and most of the time a broadband speed of around 0.5Mb - rather less than the "up to 17Mb" promised. SSE customer services seem to be just guessing at the cause, replacing a cable or a filter, blaming it on the line etc. all to no avail. Out of sheer frustration I am now on the verge of moving to another supplier.

Awful internet and telephone provider. Customer service is non existence, you have 5 ways to contact them, and none of them get a response. Been with them for 11 months, will never touch with a barge pole. They are using covid as an excuse for everything. Slow, poor quality product as well.

We moved from sky because of prices going up ,but it was the worst mistake we made , first there was a minor problem with the line , that's OK openreach sorted that out , then it was sse,s routers they can't deal with the speeds ,so they have to slow down what they give you , then all of a sudden the routers go off big red light, they say it wil, drop out from time to time , but never experienced this with sky, Not good if you are in the middle of watching something , or on a computer, doing work.
Custom services are OK , but if it goes down out of hours you deal with another company, over all if you need a decent broadband signal I personally wouldn't recommend sse broadband.

Switched from PlusNet to SSE late last year as I wanted to move from my old 15GB usage plan to unlimited so I could use my new Samsung smart TV and watch movies without going over limit. SSE and PlusNet both supplied via BT as no LLU on my exchange (northchapel). Speed and reliability just the same as PlusNet but SSE cheaper as special offer was available. Only problem is customer service only available working hours Monday - Sat so if you have a problem you may have to wait or use mobile broadband as I did. Same Technicolor modem as PlusNet uses.

Four days later it kep cutting out again whilst I was in the middle of a zoom meeting for work. This keeps happening every day. Friday 10 July 20 it went off again and not come back on again. It has cost me money on my phone to pay for more data. SSE you need to sort this mess out!!! I will have another stressful day Trying to contact you to sort yet again the same problem !!! Wake up !! Since I signed up the internet has been very slow. For me to reach a customer service adviser takes me at least 20mins wait. Today the internet is completely dead - red lights no green lights - and waited another 20mins on the phone to speak to a member of staff who booked an engineer to try to resolve this problem for Wednesday only. SSE is the wrost internet provider I ever had! Don’t signup for it. You’re going to waste time and money.

Some time ago, SSE was a decent and reputable company. Sadly, since its absorption into the OVO empire, it has sunk to being a worthless cowboy outfit. Their opening "Welcome to frustration free broadband" is an invitation to a world of unparalleled annoyance, broken promises, cavalier treatment and frustration seemingly without limits.

It took two months for these wretched people to establish a useable phone connection. I spent more than £70 (unrefunded)in mobile charges having almost daily conversations with SSE people, one of whom was excellent, the many others merely purveyors of platitudinous apologies and promises to "sort things" which were not fulfilled - over four months later, there continue to be irritating internet drop-outs. A three-page account of the many contacts had with SSE personnel and a covering letter to the manager of the Bristol office has received no response. This of course, comes as no surprise; it is typical of the disdain which the staff of this awful company treat those unfortunate to be conned into buying their fifth-rate service.

It is a pity that so few people seem to read these accounts before committing themselves to a contract with SSE. If more heeded these warnings, it might put this bunch out of business to the benefit of many.

The transfer from BT was not bad, only thing to fault, was the engineer did not turn up, rang up customer service who advised everything had been done and the engineer did not have to attend the property. Setting up was easy and compare to BT who I was paying £50 for the same service, this is a lot better deal, same service but cheaper price. If you do have BT, I would recommend to change to SSE.

It’s cheap for a reason. The wifi is terrible and the main reason why we switched broadband suppliers. We never had a problem with other companies wifi and the new provider we have the download speed in our lounge is 39Mb, with SSE we couldn’t even get a signal the wifi is that poor!!! The other problem was evening times, Im not saying SSE throttle speeds at peak time (Ive never asked them so don’t know) but during our time with them it really is my belief they do. Sometimes downloading a film around 7pm took an hour, plugged in to the router, set it going at 3pm or midnight and it’s done in 10 mins. My biggest fault with them was the wifi range, absolutely terrible.

    Avoid!
I am still waiting to be connected over a week passsed my transfer date! Takes ages to get through to anyone in customer service and when I do there is no resolve. How can companies get away with this?! If you purchase a product then you expect it to be fit for purpose. In any other area of retail this would be addressed and sorted. Disgusting.

Terrible. NO STARS. I applied for 'fix & fibre' on October 24th 2019 when I completed purchase of a new flat. I was advised it would be 2 weeks as no phone line.
After many calls, emails, FB messages to customer services over the next few weeks and constant requests from them to supply postcode and 'we'll get back to you in 5 days' which they never did, I finally, early December, got a reply from a customer service agent.
I dealt with a very helpful agent who informed me that for some reason my order had been repeatedly cancelled. She tried to reinstate it but it got cancelled again.
To cut a long story short, I told her not to bother anymore and went elsewhere. She promised me £30 compensation to close the case.
By early February, this had not turned up. I emailed her twice but no answer so either she has left the company or it's now well outside her ability to do anything.
I have submitted a formal complaint. The response was 'we'll get back to you in 5 days'.
Still no reply 2 weeks later and still no compensation.
Meanwhile, they have garbaged my address to a different place up the road and it is only thanks to the postie that a couple of things - including a router sent AFTER I cancelled everything with them turned up. I don't know whether the compensation went to this garbled address and got snaffled by whoever lives there or whether it has never been sent.
I do not understand why they have the correct address for the electricity supply (about which I have no problems - yet) but a garbaged address for the broadband element.
Let me be clear, I do NOT WANT their broadband now having had so many problems, and am very happy with my new provider.

Very poor customer services from the beginning:
Here is what happened: I used to get broadband speeds of around 5-7mb download from my previous service provider (EE) but when they increase the charge I decided to leave them to another service provider.
I made a search online and I found that SSE offered the same service at a more competitive price than EE, I therefore contacted them by phone and made all the necessary arrangements in order to run the service smoothly by 2nd of May.
Unfortunately, on the 3rd of May I realised that there was no internet at all, I started phoning SSE technical support to see what the problem was and I was astonished to find out the following:
That I had to connect the router in the main (tester) socket which I couldn’t as I never did with all previous service providers and since we have been living at this address, also my desktop is located in the first floor and the main socket is downstairs. Initially it was never mentioned when I signed up for the service that I would have to use this specific socket, we also both my wife and I explained that its location would not allow any wire since it is situated down the stairs case at the bottom of the wall (it would constitute a health and safety hazard), the wire has been installed to provide phone connection and other devices without any issues for years.
When I first contacted the engineers I find out that most of them lacked expertise in their field as they gave me wrong information.
I spoke as well as my wife with one lady who was very rude, interruptive and raising her voice, she made threats to overcharge us if we would consider changing service provider as it was already 3 days we were left with no connection at all and told us that it was “our fault that we would have to use this socket” and the issue was solved according to her.
We went through the process of checking lines ... So after that, it was established there was no fault on the line and they did not offer any problem solving bearing in mind that 12 hours ago the connection was fully active before plugging the new SSE connection device.
On the 4th day I asked a friend of mine to help me to sort out this problem as I needed the internet as my children are preparing for exams in A-Levels and they need to print materials, in addition my wife also has all her work through the internet. He carried all the tests checked our router, sockets etc and no fault, no wiring or hardware issue and he ran a test and the connection works but is very slow and we are unable to access it on the TV as we were able previously.
Now for this period of few days we experienced many difficulties as we keep losing the connection so many times, this practically happened many times.
We struggle to load a webpage, we have 2 children that would like to use the internet for homework let alone if 4 people want to use the internet... watching video or TV is out of the question.
I decided to cancel it as there was no problem solving, and made again another long research for another service provider as this is highly hindrance I think I have a good case to get my contract ended early and not after one or two months where I will find myself struggling again in a deadlock situation and us being the ones ripped off!
They asked me to pay £218.18 as I canceled my contract early!!
