I have been with Talk Talk since September 2014 and signed up to the broadband and phone plan. I had few problems and was happy with the service.

In December, I decided to upgrade to the 18 month Broadband, Phone and Plus TV plan at £9.50 a month plus line rental for 12 months. I explained to the agent that I was away for Xmas and they said that the TV box would be held at my local post office for me to pick up when I arrived home. I arrived home and had no tv box. I emailed the delivery company and did not get a reply. I also realised that Talk Talk had charged me just over £35 for the plan and emailed talk talk customer service who replied saying that the plan was £35 and if I wanted a discount then I should pay line rental up from for a year and then would get a discount on line rental.

Obviously I was annoyed and frustrated at this as the plan I had signed up to was the advertised discount price of £9.50 plus line rental for 12 months. I then phoned up Talk Talk (January) who told me that the half price plan had been cancelled for no reason but that they would renew it for me with the discounted price for 12 months on an 18 month contract and that they would refund me the difference. I also explained that I had not received my tv box and they said that I should receive it soon.

I then rang again around a week later as I could not see that my plan had changed and they said that the system would not let them change it to 12 months only six months and that I would need to ring up in six months time to add another six months on. I said that I was not happy with this and they said that there was nothing that they could do. I explained that I had still not received my tv box and they said that it had only just been sent and that I needed to be patient.

I then rang up a week later explaining that I had still not received my tv box that I was being charged for and the agent said it had been cancelled in December for no reason and that he would re-send it. I also explained that I was unhappy as I should have a discounted plan for 12 months and not 6. The agent said that he would speak to his manager and do me a great deal and came back offering me a discounted plan for five months. This is when I went high pitched and asked to speak to the manager as I should already be on a 12 month discount and he was offering me a lower time than the six months I was already on and the agent said I was not to worry and that he would do me a great deal without me speaking to a manager. The agent came back and said that he had put me on the 18 month contract for a discounted price for 12 months, re-sent the tv box and an engineer would be with me next Monday. Basically what I had signed up for in December. I phoned a few days later asking how the engineer was going to fit the tv box without a tv box as I had still not received it. The agent asked me if I wanted a tv box as it had been cancelled in December. I asked to speak to a manager who was very rude to me and asked if I wanted the tv box as it had been cancelled. Again I explained that I had not cancelled it and that I had been charged for a service I had not received so she gave me a £5 discount. The manager then put me onto the 'loyality department'. The agent re-sent me a tv box, put me on an 18 month contract with 12 months discount.... that was today. I'll update what happens.

In short Talk Talk are outrageous and have no customer service skills. They cancel your plan for no reason, cancel deliveries for no reason, charge you for a service you do not have and when you speak to a manager they are rude and transfer you to a different department because they do not want to deal with your call.

In general, I don't complain but this service had been so unbelievable that I have had too!

We took out Talk Talk Essentials package in my wife's name but I paid for it up front. We agreed a monthly payment of £5 pm with broadband to be installed 2 December and TV 6 December. They failed to show up so they then had to cancel TV installation. Broadband finally arrived 16 December. Tv still not installed ans it's 24 January. Many missed appointments have passed and in between they unilaterally increased the payments to £8.50 pm. We have emailed and written to them. They have done nothing. What they have done is post us our TV kit (when we paid for installation). It doesn't instal.

Talk Talk are inept. Their customer service is the worst I have ever experienced and they are without doubt the most useless provider of broadband and TV in the market. I would urge anyone contemplating using them to go to any other provider because they will be in a different league to Talk Talk. I regret engaging them. I would never use them again they have been absolutely hopeless and haven't even provide the full service for which we contracted nearly two months down the line.

For the sake of your sanity if you are a gamer do not subscribe to TalkTalk. Connection is too slow with plenty of disconnections just to keep things interesting. Quite often the connection is so bad I can even use Skype.

Also, according to their customer service, this is normal...

Their customer service is shocking. It is awful. I work as a consultant at carphone warehouse and call on customers behalves. I called to cancel a new order. (not even connected yet) and was pass through multiple people. Hung up on twice and SHOUTED AT BY THEIR WORKER. Working in customer service myself I think this is appalling. The person I spoke to was called muhammad and was in new orders department. Disgusting service.

Talk are the biggest crooks I have ever dealt with!, At the end of every month from the beginning of 2014 I have had to call Talk Talk to complain the broadband speed has dropped to 0.5 these calls could take up to two hours attempting to follow an Indian contact who barely speaks English after approx. 4 hours the speed returns to 5. Three visits from engineers confirm the exchange server is not capable of supplying the number of customers on it. Eventually the broadband drops out all together after two months of trying to get it reinstated, I went to another provider, these people are incompetent, dishonest and in my opinion taking money under false pretences, complaining to the CEO Manager in Southampton, I met a new bunch of incompetent idiots who suggested another engineer came to my house, I explained again the fault lies in the exchange and not to send an engineer, I then got a bill for a cancelled engineer, Talk Talk should be investigated by an outside government department, Crook, Liars, Fraudsters!. Incidentally on changing my provider, my broadband speed went immediately to 16, so much for faulty telephone lines etc.

When things are fine, TalkTalk are good. When things go wrong, however, prepare yourself for a world of stress.

I lost my broadband connection on New Year's Eve. On ringing customer service, there was a recorded announcement which was no help. (What is a microfilter anyway?). On the third try, I got through to a human. Like almost all the other people I eventually got through to, he was next to no help, and hard to understand (Indian call centre, yes?). He, along with others, kept insisting I needed a separate phone line to speak on. I explained my mobile was in for repair and I had no other number to use, but they kept going on about it. I HAD TO SPEND £50 TO GET A PHONE JUST TO SPEAK TO THEM. I'm autistic with mental health issues, and their constant reading of scripts in strong accents just stressed me more. One person was very helpful and I thought the problem was solved, but it went down again the next day. The excuses were unbelievable - one even said their network didn't support my device (so how come everything had been fine with it for the last nine months?) and asked if a washing machine was nearby (microwaves I can understand, but washing machines?) In other words, everything except it being their fault. When I asked one member of staff to repeat or clarify what he said, he sounded sarcastic and unhelpful. The whole episode caused me a lot of stress - I don't really have a real world social network, nearly all my socialising and activism is done online. When you've worked a 12-hour shift, the last thing you need is to have to spend an hour on the phone to TalkTalk and listen to irrelevant and unhelpful advice from people you struggle to understand.

Now I know why people looked at me strangely when I said I was with TalkTalk, and why they have such a bad reputation.

At the time of writing this I have been on the phone 5hrs! I have been fobbed off to India, Philippines, south Africa, and finally UK. Have wasted a day's earnings waiting for an engineer who hadn't tuned up! My advice is don't bother. Now I am stuck with a bill of £230.00 Ariel installation which if I go to sky I will not need!
