Reasons to choose NOW Broadband

  • No contract - Standard and fibre broadband packages are all available without a contract. You'll need to pay a set up fee, but can cancel at any time. It's great for students or anyone with a short tenancy agreement.
  • Cheap TV bundles - NOW Broadband offers a range of TV packages including Sky Sports and Sky Cinema. You'll make a saving if you buy them in a bundle with NOW Broadband.
  • Fibre packages available - NOW Broadband has fibre packages with average speeds of 36Mb and 63Mb.
  • Truly unlimited broadband - All the broadband deals are unlimited, so you can download as much data per month as you like.
  • Free NOW Broadband Hub Two - Fast wireless router included free for all users. Get a cheap Smart TV Stick as part of a TV bundle, too.
  • Smartphone and tablet support - You can add up to four phones or tablets for your TV plan, and watch on two simultaneously.
  • Easy switching from other providers - If you're currently with BT, Plusnet, EE or TalkTalk, the NOW team will handle the whole switchover process for you.

Possible downsides

  • Online tech support - NOW Broadband is predominantly an online service, so your options for customer support are more limited than other providers.
  • Connection fees apply - A one-off setup fee applies to new customers, and is higher on the no-contract option.
  • There may be cheaper options available - While the flexibility of no contracts is a big deal, it does come at a price. Both broadband and TV services from NOW Broadband are a little more expensive than you might pay if you're willing to enter into a contract with another provider.

I'm coming to the end of 18 month contract and can't wait to leave. My main gripe is the pathetic wifi signal and lack of ports with the router. Also fed up with Internet dropping out. I don't bother calling about it because customer service leave a lot to be desired and it eventually comes back. I could live with that but not the rubbish router. Bradband speed OK most of the time.

North Lanarkshire NOW Broadband
I have real problems with getting any kind of advertised speed for my Broadband; but now I now have 30+GHz after changing some router options.

The promised speed is 36Mbps and I was getting around 1.9Mbps to my laptop. I spoke to NowTV support and they got a BT engineer out to check the speed for me within 4 days (I called on Friday, he was here Monday). The BT guys check the speed going to the router, and it was 36Mbps as advertised, but the speed quickly dropped off the further I was away from the router... literally in the spare bedroom, around 15 meters, the speed went down to 1.9Mbps. So.... I tried moving the router, that didnn't help much; I tried moving my Laptop, I got around 5-6Mbps now that they are around 5 meters closer. This is obviously really bad for working from home, so I started to investigate the WIFI settings on the router (don't do this if you don't know what your doing...); and I now have 34-35 Mbps after disabling the 2.4GHz connection and only using the 5Ghz connection.

So my conclusion is that the Routers the NowTV use are a bit s**t as they don't handshake to the higher GHz by default; but to the 2.4GHz.

FYI I changed the following options on the router... I take no responsibility if your break anything. Do at your own risk....

In a browser, goto the http://192.168.0.1
The username defaults to admin
The password defaults to nowtv
Goto the Wireless
Goto 2.4 GHz wireless settings
Unchecked...
Enable Wireless Access Point
Enable WPS
Allow Broadcast of Name (SSID)
Synchronise 2.4GHz and 5GHz Settings

MAKE SURE YOU UNCHECK Synchronise 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz Settings. If you don't you might end up not being able to connect to your router.

Hit the Apply button. The router will restart the connection, and you can now do a speed test. You may have to check that any old devices can still connect; as not everything will be able to connect using 5Ghz.

I was promised a minimum speed that has not been delivered and is looking more and more like it never will be, even though my last ISP managed to do so.

They changed my phone number without telling me and without my consent even after promising me it would not change. Incorrectly billed me and the list goes on. The only good points so far is their customer service is pretty quick and they do try to be helpful. Also the reliability is quite good.

I’m paying £30 per month for super fast broadband, yet I’m writing this review on my phone using 4G because I have no broadband signal. Yet again. I am heartily sick of paying out for a ‘service’ which fluctuates between unreliable and non-existent.

I only use their broadband and several times every single day their services are down for few minutes, sometimes up to 20 times a day, sometimes up to 5 times per hour. It's been getting worse lately. It's absolute nightmare when you're working from home using remote connection. Please consider choosing another service if you need anything resembling a stable uninterrupted connection.

Steer clear!!
Disgusted with the level of customer service from NowBroadband, I signed up at the beginning of May and had a 3 week initial wait for installation, it’s a busy time with everything going on so that’s fine, the technician never turned up. After ringing I was told the technician may have activated the line from off site and should plug in the broadband box and wait until midnight for the internet to kick in. No such luck.
The day after I rang up to be told there was a delay on the line and someone would be in touch in 3 days to sort it, nothing.
I rung up agin on June 1st to be told there was a minimum of 3 weeks AGAIN before a technician could come out on the 21st June and that the initial activation was not carried out because the technician could not gain access to my property which was a load of tosh and an easy way out for the provider. I had stayed in all day and live on a main road, very easily accessible if he had actually showed up, which he did not. Terrible service and no contact from them when they said they would call and fix the problem. I cancelled the order on June 1st because a 2 month wait to get broadband is ridiculous. Stay clear, not at all worth the hassle and after all the messing around I am still without broadband, go elsewhere and save yourself the time and hassle of dealing with NowBroadband!

Watching football on TV

How to watch the Premier League season when it restarts

Posted on 2020-06-16 17:08 in News Features Virgin Media Sky BT NOW Broadband

After a three month delay the Premier League season is finally set to return. It kicks off again on 17 June with a double header including the Man City - Arsenal game. With no fans allowed in the stadiums, all the remaining 92 matches will be shown live on TV, across a mix of free-to-air and premium channels.

Here's how you can watch.

How to watch Premier League games for free

For the first time ever, Premier League games will be shown live on free-to-air TV. There will be 33 free matches in all, spread across three channels.

BBC: The BBC will be showing four matches, starting with Bournemouth vs Crystal Palace on 20 June. The Beeb will also have their usual FA Cup coverage when the competition resumes on 27 June.

Amazon: Amazon have also got four games, which begin with Palace against Burnley on 29 June. You'll be able to watch these even if you aren't a Prime subscriber (although you probably will need a normal Amazon account).

Pick: The remaining 25 free games are on the Pick channel. "What is Pick?", you ask. Good question! It's a channel owned by Sky that you can watch for free on every platform. You'll find it on Freeview channel 11, Freesat channel 144, Sky channel 159 and Virgin Media channel 165.

Don't assume that it's just the less fashionable games that will be available for free. Pick will be showing the Merseyside derby on Sunday 21 June, which could be the night that Liverpool are finally confirmed as champions.

How to watch Premier League football on Sky Sports and BT Sport

If the free coverage isn't enough for you, now's the perfect time to subscribe to a premium sports channel. If you've got broadband from the likes of Sky or BT you should be able to add the channels to your existing deal, or you could even consider switching providers and making a saving on a bundle.

Sky Sports have got 39 exclusive matches (they'll also be showing the games on Pick), which begins with Aston Villa vs Sheffield Utd at 6pm on 17 June. They've got the pick of the big fixtures. They will also be covering the Championship, currently slated to resume on 20 June.

BT Sport will be showing 20 games - 12 more than they originally had - with the first seeing Watford take on Leicester at 12.30pm on 20 June. They've also got the rights to the Champions League, although there's no date yet for when that will come back.

There are four main ways to sign up to watch Premier League football on Sky Sports and BT Sport.

Sky: The most obvious way to get Sky Sports is direct from Sky, via a dish, and you can add BT Sport to your package as well. You can sign up to Sky regardless of what internet provider you use, although you should be able to save on your monthly bill by taking it as part of a bundle with Sky broadband.

Take a look at the latest Sky broadband and TV bundles.

BT: BT now offer a full BT TV service to their broadband customers. This gives you a choice of channel packages, with the sports offerings including BT Sport along with all the Sky Sports channels streamed through NOW TV. What we like about BT TV is that even though you have to take a 24 month contract, your choice of channels is flexible. So, you can sign up for the football now, then when the season ends you can switch to a movie package instead.

Check out the best BT broadband and TV bundles.

Virgin Media: You can get Sky Sports and BT Sport through Virgin Media both as a standalone service or as part of a bundle with Virgin Media broadband. Virgin offer some of the fastest broadband plans that are widely available, with speeds up to an average of 516Mb.

See the latest Virgin Media broadband and TV bundles.

NOW TV: With the streaming service NOW TV you can watch Sky Sports without a dish. It can work out a little more expensive than getting it through Sky, but that's because you don't need a contract - you can cancel at any time. NOW TV doesn't offer BT Sport. You can make further savings by getting the service with a NOW Broadband bundle.

Check the latest NOW Broadband deals.

BT Student Broadband

Last minute student broadband offers and options

Posted on 2019-09-12 11:39 in Features Offers Hyperoptic Three Vodafone 4GEE BT NOW Broadband Plusnet Virgin Media

It's the time of year where students around the country are heading to university, either to start their studies or return for a new academic year.

Whether you're heading to uni for the first time, returning to your student accommodation or about to start out in a new student house share, now's the time to look for a good student broadband offer to keep you online over the next 9 months.

To prepare for student broadband season, we updated our longstanding Student Broadband Guide to reflect some of the student-specific offers available this year with student-exclusive 9 month contract offers from BT and student-exclusive cheaper 1 month rolling contract offers from Virgin Media.

Both of those option mean that you can avoid paying for broadband costs should you head home or go off on travels in the 3 months between academic years. But of course you don't need a special student exclusive offer to get short contract broadband from other suppliers, for example NOW Broadband, Plusnet and Hyperoptic also have competitive 1 month rolling contract offers that even undercut BT and Virgin's prices.

This year, we're also endorsing a mobile broadband option for the first time. Well, it's 4G or 5G mobile broadband technology sold as home broadband services. With 4G and 5G home broadband routers from Three, Vodafone and EE you may have to commit to a much longer contract, but you can then take your router with you wherever you travel during summer break. Vodafone even offer a 30 day rolling contract version, although you'll have to pay more than the cost of 3 months contract to get it.

Unlike most mobile broadband solutions, these have large enough usage allowances for many households. Three's home router even comes with unlimited usage!

Even if mobile data usually isn't strong inside your student accommodation, you may get a better connection from a router, or may even be able to get an external antenna installed to boost the signal.

We weigh up all these pros and cons and give you a table of all the relevant offers over on our Student Broadband guide.

NOW Broadband Buyers Guide - Is NOW Broadband right for you?

Can I get NOW Broadband?

NOW Broadband runs on Sky's own broadband network, which has very wide availability across the UK.

Sky's network region covers major cities, towns, and rural areas, and it's mostly only remote regions that aren't supported. In all, standard broadband is available to more than 90% of UK homes, and fibre to approaching 95%. You can use our postcode checker to find out if NOW Broadband is available where you are.

Even if you aren't within the network area you can still get NOW TV. You only need a fast broadband connection (from any provider) to use one of the NOW TV Passes.

What packages are available?

NOW Broadband is owned by Sky, and offers a similar range of standard and fibre broadband packages. You can also add calls and TV services to your deal.

The three main packages are:

  • Brilliant Broadband - a standard broadband service with average speeds of 11Mb
  • Fab Fibre - the entry-level fibre offering, with average speeds of 36Mb
  • Super Fibre - the fastest fibre package, delivering average speeds of 63Mb

The standout feature of all these deals is that you can get them on either a 12-month contract, or on a 30-day rolling deal with no long-term obligations. The monthly price is the same whichever length you choose, although you do have to pay a connection fee of £60 if you go for the shorter option.

If you choose the 30-day deal you're free to cancel at any time. Just give notice before your next payment is due. If you choose the 12-month deal - known as the Saver Plan - you will be committed to remaining on your plan for the full year (or pay a termination fee should you want to leave early).

The packages are all unlimited, meaning you can download as much as you like each month without any restrictions. Line rental is included, and there's no option to buy without a phone line.

You can add a range of call packages, including deals that give you weekend or Anytime calls. There's also options to take broadband and TV as part of a bundle, or you can sign up for your optional TV services separately.

What TV deals are available through NOW TV?

Now TV is a streaming service that offers a near complete Sky TV package without contract or satellite dish.

As a full streaming service you need fast broadband to get the most out of Now TV. You can get this as part of a NOW Broadband bundle, add it separately after you've signed up to NOW Broadband, or just sign up for it even if you use another provider.

To watch it you get a NOW TV stick or box to plug into your television, which you might get for free as part of a broadband bundle. They let you pause and rewind live TV shows, but not record them. The devices do support apps, which you can use for on demand viewing including on Netflix. You need to use your normal TV tuner to watch the Freeview channels.

Most importantly, NOW TV does not come with a contract. You pay for one month at a time, and can cancel whenever you want. It also offers a free 14 day trial.

There are five TV passes for Now TV, each offering a different set of channels:

  • Entertainment: 11 premium entertainment channels including Sky One and Fox. It's also the only way to get Sky Atlantic without a dish.
  • Sky Cinema: the full set of Sky Cinema channels along with 1000 movies on demand.
  • Kids: six extra channels and thousands of episodes of TV on demand.
  • Sky Sports: all the Sky Sports channels. You can sign up for day, week, month or mobile-only passes. This is ideal if only want to watch specific events.
  • Hayu: a channel dedicated to US reality TV shows.

NOW TV is the best way to get the full set of Sky channels without a contract. It is more expensive than going with Sky, but you only pay for what you want when you want it. In particular, this means you can get the Sky Sports channels without signing up to an additional Entertainment bundle, which you have to do if you go with Sky. It also means you can cancel to save money when the football season ends, or when your favourite TV series finishes.

Which package should I choose?

With the similarities between all the packages, the main choice is what speed you need.

The Brilliant Broadband package is likely to be good enough for smaller households, or those with more modest requirements. It'll be fine for one user watching Netflix or making large downloads, but may be too slow for several users doing the same thing together.

For larger households, where someone is always streaming, downloading or gaming, the faster Fab Fibre or Super Fibre packages are better for making sure no-one experiences any slowdown.

The no-contract option makes NOW Broadband an ideal choice for students who might only need the service for nine or ten months in the year. If you do choose the 12 month contract instead it reduces the one-off set up fee significantly, but the monthly prices remain the same. In either case you can change or cancel your TV passes whenever you like.

Points to consider before you choose

  • How many people will be using your broadband for streaming, downloading and gaming?
  • Are you a student, or do you live in short lease accommodation?
  • Do you want premium TV channels without a long-term commitment?
  • Do you want to watch TV on your phone or tablet?
  • Do you make a lot of landline calls?

What are the benefits of NOW Broadband?

What are the main reasons you should consider buying broadband from NOW Broadband?

  • No contract - The one-month rolling deals make NOW Broadband ideal for students or anyone else who is either unwililng or unable to sign up to a long-term commitment with their broadband supplier.
  • Commitment-free TV - Want to watch Game of Thrones or live Premier League football? NOW TV lets you do that without being tied in for a year or more. NOW TV is also the only way to watch Sky Atlantic without a full Sky package (it isn't available through Virgin Media).
  • Unlimited usage - There are no download or speed limits on any of the NOW Broadband packages.
  • Fast uploads - Upload speeds on the fastest Super Fibre deal are 18Mb average speed, which is better than many rival providers.

What are the drawbacks to NOW Broadband?

What possible downsides should you be aware of before you sign up?

  • Set up fee - While it's great to be able to sign up to a no-contract deal, this does come with an activation fee of around £60. Make note of this, as it adds to your upfront cost.
  • TV can be more expensive - The biggest selling point of NOW TV is the lack of contracts. If you're happy to sign a contract you might find a Sky Broadband-with-TV bundle works out cheaper. There are also other ways to save money on pay TV.
  • Online tech support - The tech customer service options for NOW Broadband are limited. You'll mostly be required to go online for support.
