Awful customer service / tech support, no ability to limit specific devices access to wifi.

I tend to change my supplier each year, in last 4 years having been with Virgin, BT and Plusnet. The broadband supply from Talktalk is fine, decent speed and rarely lose service. Two main issues though:

Unlike BT and Plusnet it is not possible to rename a device connecting to your wifi and then manage its access to wifi. This was a great benefit with BT and Plusnet, it meant that i could turn off access to wifi for my children's devices each night. This alone will mean that i will not continue with Talktalk when my contract ends.

Awful tech support/customer service. I lost broadband on Saturday morning only restored on Tuesday. The tech support team (I spoke to 4) all follow the same script, each step seeming to be to get you off the phone for a while.
Call one, day one resolution: "Turn off the modem for half an hour" and phone back if its still not working.

Call 2, day 2, "attach a microfilter to the line (even though the service has worked for 4 months without a microfilter), I didn't have one so they said they wouldn't do anything else until I had received one in the post (still hasn't arrived 3 days later), rather than wait I went out and bought one, unsurprisingly didn't help.
Call 3, day 2, unpleasant unhelpful person, kept talking over me, ignored everything I said, resolution 3, find a screwdriver and take the front off the socket to try the microfilter in the test socket, at this point I asked to move to this being a complaint over how my problem was being handled..
Call 4, complaints team....same checklist for resolution as above, would not do anything until the front of the socket had been removed, I refused as there still no reason to suspect that the socket had suddenly failed with no reason. resolution here to send an engineer 2 days later, threats by phone and text over a £65 fine if not in when engineer called at arranged time.

Day 4, engineer arrives late. wonders why tech support had been insisting on a filter in the test socket. instead resets the modem, service works again, problem resolved, a few minutes work after 4 days.

The tech support team can only seem to follow a script a set troubleshooting pathway, not interested in listening to the circumstances or actually thinking about what might be the cause.

    Really poor service

Horrendous customer service after two letters with all details Inc direct debit form and six calls later( averaging one HR) the transfer of account due to a bereavement has still not been processed.customer service personnel ability is so poor eg on one occasion surname needed to repeated and spelt 14 times. Needless to say will not be proceeding with this supplier....stay clear!

What a shambles. Despite paying for their top service which, when it works, delivers 150MB download, it consistently breaks down, usually during a time when I most need it. And when I do manage to get through, they always sound so surprised. I will definitely be moving elsewhere as soon as our contract ends. My only worry is ...are they ALL as bad as eachother?

Hilarious situation! Moved into a top floor flat a year ago and brought TalkTalk with me. Changed to fiber and it started to work nicely. A few weeks ago I was informed by text, letter and email "sorry you're leaving us". They'd heard we were moving house. Incorrect. Someone had moved into flat below us. TalkTalk didn't have a record of a top floor flat existing so we got cut off. I called up and was advised to change the address online which I did. We still got cut off during my fiancée's finals. I spent 100 mins on live chat being passing from department to department and being told "thank you for your patience" about 1000 times. The end result - "you've been cut off and you need to buy a new package but your address doesn't exist so we advise you contact Royal Mail". I wrote a letter to them last week. There will be another one coming. Oh, and their letter said they'd be charging us a £192 cancellation fee. What a service!

Broadband was reliable over several years. The painful bit was everything surrounding the broadband. Just to be able to change your name you have to print off a sheet of paper, fill it in and post it off so that in 28 days you can change your details. I did this twice and both times I was told that they had not received it. So we kept the name on the account. When I wanted to close the account, I didn't want to impersonate someone else and told them who I was and they told me I couldn't close the account as I wasn't the account holder. Seriously do not go with this provider. Plusnet has 100% better customer service and are so helpful, go with them..or anyone else.

TalkTalk are probably the worst company I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. They let my account details be stolen, as a result of which I was inundated with scam calls from India. I wanted the area code the calls were coming from, blocked. TalkTalk said this was impossible and suggested that I change my number.
Then my phone line died. I informed TalkTalk. 30 minutes later they said it was fixed. It was still dead. Then they said I would have to remove the faceplate from the phone socket. I was expected to have a Philips screwdriver handy. When I said I didn't, I was informed it was cost me £65 for an engineer, despite the fact that it was obviously a problem their end and not with my phone.
They rerouted my phone calls to my mobile, for which I give them credit. Two and a half days they fixed the problem. However, after almost a week, I discovered that the phone calls were still being rerouted. When I told them, because I no longer the the ref. number, I had to go through loads of security checks. This, in order to get them to do something that they should already have done.
Don't touch these clowns with a barge pole!

TalkTalk are total rubbish here. Download speed of 13.81MBPS. Upload registering at 0.27. In fact this is optimistic. I was getting about 1 Megabyte per minute (yes, per minute! 0.02MBPS and taking hours to upload a modest video.

Had great service up until trying to cancel, lying about cancelations, placing me on hold for an age in the hope I would give up trying to cancel. Taking all my details only to pass me on to someone else and say they can't do my request after spending 10 minutes discussing my cancellation etc.

    Won't be recommending these again

Initially brilliant. After a few weeks most evenings the Internet dropped our completely around 9 pm to 10 pm. Rebooted router. No good. Repositioned router. No difference. Added a WiFi extender. No difference. Used cable to TV. Still no difference. Talktalk sadly does not deliver a quality product.

Pushy Sales Jabber, Speed deteriorating, Can't wait to bin BT Line Rental charges a total 'Ripoff'.

Research to date suggests that the only 'improved' alternative is to go fibre optic because of distance from exchange, that is the bottom line here folks, 'DISTANCE FROM EXCHANGE' and more importantly,'CUSTOMER SERVICE'!!!!

Never recommend a **** WiFi like this, talk talk as they advertise isn't that good.
In my previous address it was in coma situation meaning the speed however in my new address it is unfortunately dead.
So my advice never do a contract with talk talk as they are not providing a good WiFi plus a good customer service

Great for the contract period. After that, dumped onto a high cost tariff. So much for a Company rewarding loyalty. Decided to shift provider. Talktalk had no joined up thinking to a person switching. Only ONE interest, get cash in from the customer. Relentless pressure to pay. Left with a very sour taste to their service. If they had moved me onto a reasonable tariff, I'd i've stayed. But, simply treated with contempt. Stuff you, and I'd never recommend you.

Unbelievable lack of communication internally for a telecoms company, as previous reviews have said each call to "customer services" will last at least one hour and will resolve NOTHING. It took three months after going live date to finally create a bill which was correct. Five days after the billing problem was finally rectified, they threatened to restrict service because of "late" payment. Ironically the actual BB product itself is pretty good, but the customer service completely lets the company down. If you value your sanity go elsewhere!!!

Never do the mistake to join Talk Talk. Never. The broadband speed is slow and the service and evesyrging they do is also slow. I have made a home move and been told that the estimated date of the move is 14th of March. I have asked if it is possible for the process to be shorter and when provided the address of my new home I have been told that there is a BTS stop line near the address and given estimated go live date 7th of March. On the 8th of March still didn’t have internet so called CS again which said they will escalade this and that the process takes 24/48 h. Today, I’ve receiced a text from them taking me back to 14th of March. Called the team which told me there is nothing they can do as it depends on the availability of their engineers and that they need to do some work before my services go live.
    Absolute disappointment.

TalkTalk CEO office has been responsive and they have tried to resolve my problems with an unstable wifi connection in the house. The incoming signal has no issues, just the feeble router which they refuse to change to a model that the For a say is the best. For that reason, I'm not best pleased.

    Beware of deception!

Don't join thinking you're getting value for money. You will eventually end up paying much more in total than you can imagine

My account charges kept increasing ever so slightly every month since joining till near the end of the year contract I was paying nearly double what I was originally promised. None of this was stated in the T&Cs either.

God help you if you mention leaving: they will CHARGE YOU LIKE CRAZY EVEN IF IT'S PAST YOUR CONTRACT PERIOD all sorts of things that are not in the T&Cs. If I was a lawyer, I would have took them to consumer court. Now, I can only pray that more people realize how deceptive this company is and it loses customers and ends up closing.
It is very depressing being taken advantage of illegally by a large corporation and noone notices.

Maybe there are happy TalkTalk customers and I was an exception to the rule but you never know if you are going to be the next victim.

I would never use TalkTalk personally as long as I'm alive or recommend any of their services to any friend (or even enemy) of mine

Edit: Oh & I forgot to mention their "wonderful" customer service but reading through the reviews, I'm assuming a lot of other customers have got that area covered.

Moving house and notified them, they strung me along for 3 weeks before telling me they would cancel the contract as they couldn't provide at my new address. I went elsewhere, they then claimed that I hadn't cancelled the contract and that they now could switch to my new address. Spent hours trying to sort it out over the phone and online chat. No compensation for wasting my time and basically called a liar, as they don't record their calls so couldn't clarify the 8 previous conversations I'd had with them. Absolutely awful customer service.

10 Mbits/sec I do not know if that is good or bad.

Their website never works properly. Many pages do not respond when I press a button. I prefer to use text via the website or email to report problems, but the site does not let me. I have to phone. Not possible if my phone does not work! I was without a TT phone for a week. Many phone clerks have heavy foreign accent so are difficult to understand. They try hard to sell you something extra whenever you phone.

As far as I am concerned, the overall broadband experience from Talk Talk was no better or worse than any other provider, but what sets them apart is absolutely shocking customer service.
I looked to move, called CS and they opened a case to see if they could provide... wait a call back. They call off a 0800 number to the number you logged (after going through security) and ask you to go through security questions. Yes they advise a call is due in a window, but I will never answer a security question on an inbound call. You then get a text saying you were ‘unavailable’ and they will try again. Same drill.
You call them back answer security and get told ‘we’ll log a case’! Finally get through to find out they can’t supply to new address (had already moved) so I have to terminate, pay early leave fee (understand) pay notice (understand) but not from the date of the original call (miffed) and also I am liable for any costs incurred in the next 30 days !!
Oh yes and with various lengthy holds that was 50 minutes of my life I’ll not get back.
Talk Talk their CS can do, but satisfaction from a call ??

    Avoid them is my advice

15 years ago I had problems with talk talk and had no internet, they would not acknowledge the fault so the only and quick remedy was to cancel and get a new provider and it was back on. Unfortunately talk talk bought out the new provider a couple of years later, for the next few years I stuck with them as the speed etc was good however customer service is still shocking, they are unable to carry out the most simplest instructions as they just can't comprehend anything, they have left my business with no internet and there sales team are total utter bare faced liers as I asked them a question 3 times to clarify which they did but it was a lie. have gone to BT, it took no more than 15 minutes to sort out what took talk talk over 2 hours and still unable to sort

TalkTalk are fine while things run smoothly but when there is a problem or changes are required their Customer Service department are totally useless. They will try very hard to misconstrue anything that you say and will work constantly to persuade you to go away. It is a pity that they let the Company down so badly when the operations side are reasonably ok. I will certainly look for another supplier when my term is up.

Talk talk was ok while we had it. then I had to break my contract to move overseas. Despite agreeing a cut off date in writing (via their text app), Talktalk did not terminate the contract on the agreed date, but kept billing me for a couple of months afterwards. It then took over 2 hours of calls to their call centre to get them to reimburse them the money that they took after the period ended.

    Talktalk broadband is absolute garbage!
It's extremely slow, and on good days the latency is horribly high. Thought it was a router problem but no, even the router they supplied is absolute garbage. Don't be fooled my cheap prices because you pay for what you get! Customer service is good but even they can't do much since they don't control the company. Other than that, don't bother with Talktalk.

Utterly shambolic customer services; i simply wanted to move my wifi with me when i moved home. 3 hours of calls and a week later and still not possible. The fact you are unable to use any email address you have previously used with them means that returning customers are advised to either use a friends email address or set up a new email address. Poorly trained operators. Avoid at all costs!!

Very poor. Before coming to the end of my contract they emailed me and said my payments would increase by £1.75. It increased by £10.
I've tried to call customer services 4 times and I feel awful saying this, but I don't understand what they are saying so have had to apologise and hang up.
When I renewed my contract last year there was a problem and i was on the phone for over an hour while they passed me from person to person.
I've been with this company a long time but I'm afraid I will be leaving and going to one who looks after their customers better and has a cheaper contract.

Broadband connections are fine, its just the tv box. Its sooooo slow and unresponsive at times, and the on-demand service only ever worked once for me.
I live in an area where the web's been slow for decades, but recently BT finally got around to providing us with faster lines.
ive had a few issues with talktalk in the past, customer service being the old problem, they contract call-centers to far away chaep labor countries imo, as the english communication 99% of the time is shockingly poor, and ultimatly frustrating as u spend ages on phone and come away feeling u got nowhere.
They apparently cant tell me when my contract ends!! another tool they have to trap u into more fees if u do leave. That should be illegal as isnt that fraudulent ways of gaining money from customers?
Anyway.. the new speeds my area had almost made want to swap, but the increasing costs from all providers left it all a mess. No virgin around here unfortunately, and BT ripped me off many years ago back in the dial up days, so i refuse to ever go back to them directly.
SO i just went easy option & stayed with talktalk.
The endless letters thro door about tv i didnt want really annoyed me too, and each time on phone they would try to sell me the stuff, eventually i fell for it and took a tv package on one of those cheap intro offers.
Then came problems. Im not a huge fan of tv anyway, it bores me.. or my previous jobs have never allowed me to watch any regular stuff, but the on demand seemed ok to have. BUT..
The remote control or the box's receiver is sooo slow u end up pressing buttons 3 or 4 times thinking 'did i press it properly', then after 5secs the tv changes all the things u pressed 10secs ago.. or u press 'guide', nothing happens., so u press again, nothing, press again making sure u point at the box.. then 5 secs later the guide comes & goes and comes & goes.. its almost laughable xD if i wasnt paying for this rubbish ofc... its so annoying.. Really poor technology inside that box.
Then on demand.. well.. to use it u have to put in your postcode (presumably for the tv license we all get ripped off with) eventually i set it up and watched a movie.. great 2 or 3 quid seemed ok..
But its never workled since.. 'cant connect to service', or currently unavailable is all i ever get..
What the hell am i paying for? surely if they cant provide me the service they are charging me for i can leave right? lol, no.. i have to pay them if i leave early now...

I dunno whether its our gov'mt or ofcom's lack of effort or will..or both xD but someone needs to stamp down on these companies, we all being taken for a ride.
If a shop keeper did this to u then u'd be on his doorstep until he gave u money back.. a big company does theses things and nobody can do anything.. its wrong.

Absolutely ripped me off. Talktalk made me believe I was ordering broadband and sky sports bundle. I never received the tv box, they said they don't send it unless customers ask for it, my question is, why advertise it with the broadband. I've been hoodwinked and ripped off. Apparently im not entitled to the sky bundle. They've still not sent me the tv box although I requested it. THEY ARE DECEEITFULL RIP OFFS...
I regret leaving plusnet for these...

Talk talk is totally crap! There customer service via the online chat or phone call is shocking! They are rude and just want to pass you onto someone else ASAP.
I was in a 18 month internet tv contract which after 15 months they put the price up month on month for three months until I was paying £15 more than I originally was paying the only rise I was notified about was for the tv which was terrible the box I had to change 4 times as it kept breaking or freezing. They added on charges for the landline telephone which I never wanted but was part of the package and was told I had to have. Over all I only went with them as at the time Sky and Virgin didn’t cover my area and BT is expensive but other than the internet being okay most of the time the rest is crap. My advice is if you’re just after internet for under £20 and will never complain to anyone working for Talk talk then go for it but if you want TV and other stuff stay well clear

Never had a problem with broadband, however the customer service or lack there of has made me decide to leave, getting charged for things when it's there fault THEN blameing me THEN tell me that it's been taken off the bill, next one, receive the bill and it's still there,no one speaks English and don't understand after an hr on the phone...shocking
